In just a few days, a group of 14 women will board an airplane bound for Tanzania with the summit of Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, in their sights. Every step of the way up the 19,340-foot mountain brings the women closer to their goal — to raise a minimum of $8,000 each for the American Foundation for Children with Aids (AFCA).
The expedition is part of the Climb Up So Kids Can Grow Up program, a series of outdoor events created to give children and adults a healthy activity to do for their own sake, and for the sake of others. These fundraising activities benefit the AFCA, a non-profit organization that helps HIV+ children, their guardians and HIV+ pregnant women in sub-Saharan Africa who have no other access to aid. AFCA provides critical AIDS and related medications, medical equipment and supplies, nutritional supplements, and emergency supplies that are requested by the institutions in our targeted areas.
Darn Tough Vermont has the pleasure of providing these 14 courageous and inspirational women with the socks that will take them 19,340 vertical feet closer to ending the AIDS epidemic in Africa.
