About: RJ is an ultra-marathon and adventure runner who spends the majority of his time chasing sunsets atop Vermont’s Green Mountains. After graduating from UVM, RJ moved to Jackson, Wyoming with a group of friends to ski bum for a few years. It was in Jackson that RJ expanded his love for backcountry skiing, which eventually transitioned to mountain running during the summer months when the snow wasn’t flying. A brief stint living in a van (yes, by a river) allowed RJ to save enough money to move back to Vermont, where he currently lives in Stowe. When he isn’t ridge running, RJ can be found mountain biking or backcountry skiing in Vermont and the Adirondacks.
Kudos: RJ is currently training to break the unsupported speed record on Vermont’s rugged 273-mile Long Trail. He won the 2013 Vermont 50K, took 6th in the 2012 Vermont 50 miler, and placed 4th in the 2011 Vermont 50K. While out west, RJ also competed in the 24 Hours of Moab mountain bike race two years in a row and placed 4th in the Wahsatch Steeplechase in Salt Lake City, Utah.
On the socks: Vermont can get pretty wet and muddy, so you might imagine RJ’s feet aren’t the prettiest site after 30+ miles of running in the rain. But no matter how wrinkly and dirty his paws get, RJ counts on his Darn Tough Socks to prevent nasty blisters in even the worst of conditions.
